Evolution of the Control Room Named Accelerator Project of the Year at IBC2024

The project brought together champions like BBC, ITN, TV2 Denmark, Google and participants like CueznxteditionLoopicSPX GraphicsCuePilotErizos.TV, and others.

Exciting news from IBC 2024: earlier this February The Evolution of the Control Room project was named Accelerator Project of the Year. This project has been realized by industry experts who explored how live production workflows can be enhanced through XR, AI, voice control, and HTML-based graphics solutions. Cuez is a proud collaborator in this project where our innovative automation system played a central role.

Cuez & The Future of the Control Room: An Award-Winning IBC Accelerator Project

The traditional control room operation was due for a serious upgrade. Old school setups Traditional setups require complex hardware, large teams on-site, and fixed infrastructure that can be costly and difficult to scale. This Accelerator Project aimed to change that by integrating modern technologies such as XR, AI, voice control, and HTML-based graphics into the news gallery setup. The goal of the project was to prove that an AI-powered, and cloud-based control room is not only possible but also highly effective.

The project brought a consortium of champions as well as participants such as Cuez, nxtedition, Loopic, Erizos, SPX Graphics, and CuePilot to develop a fully functioning proof of concept. The aim was to demonstrate how AI-driven automation, remote production, and flexible cloud integrations can streamline live broadcasts, reduce operational costs, and make high-end production accessible from anywhere.

IBC2024: A Continuous Effort

IBC Accelerator 2023 — Gallery Agnostic Live Broadcasting

However, the final experiment was not a stand-alone The 2024 project built on the work started in the IBC 2023 Accelerator: Gallery Agnostic Live Broadcasting. That project proved that live production could move away from rigid, hardware-dependent control rooms, demonstrating how different cloud-based production tools could seamlessly integrate, regardless of location or platform.

The Evolution of the Control Room project in 2024 took that concept even further, shifting the focus to automation, AI, and scalability. Instead of just proving that remote workflows were possible, the goal was to refine the process—reducing human intervention, increasing efficiency, and making AI-driven automation a reality. The success of this project didn’t just win an award; it showed that the industry is moving full-speed towards smarter and more adaptable control rooms.

What’s Next?

Winning IBC Accelerator Project of the Year is a huge recognition of how rapidly the industry is shifting. Broadcasters are being asked to do more with fewer resources, and rigid, traditional control rooms are no longer the only option. This project demonstrated that a next-generation control room can be scalable, flexible, and ready for the future of live production.

IBC Accelerator 2024 — The Future of the Control Room

For Cuez, this award is not only a stepping stone but also is moment of pride. It reinforced the direction we’ve been heading all along, where automation works for production teams, not against them. We are also excited to see how new technologies such as AI could improve the production processes and make them leaner. This project was just the beginning, and we’re excited to see where this transformation leads next.
