Cuez for Teaching Live Production

The After School Film Institute (ASFIMiami) at Miami Arts Studio is a creative hub where young storytellers explore film, television, and media production. What once relied on a mix of Google Sheets and basic teleprompter tools has evolved into a more coordinated, student-driven broadcast workflow with the help of Cuez.

Live production plays a central role in how students learn storytelling, collaboration, and broadcast skills. As productions became more ambitious, the existing setup started to show its limits. Coordinating scripts, rundowns, and live timing across multiple tools made it harder for students to plan ahead and run shows confidently.

Beyond Simple Workarounds

That changed when the team discovered Cuez. By bringing rundowns, scripts, teleprompting, and show coordination into one platform, students were able to see how all the pieces of a live show fit together.

As Dr. Devin Marsh, Director of Film and TV at Miami Arts Studio, explains:

“We were using Google Sheets and just putting out a free teleprompter, and I needed a lot more coordination. Finding Cuez was a game-changer for my show.”

The shared structure made it easier for students to organize their work and take ownership of the production process.

“Google Sheets is a pretty wonky workaround. Using Cuez has made students more professional, more organized, and able to plan ahead instead of winging it last minute.”

Building Independence and Confidence

One of the biggest changes has been how independently students now run their shows. With a clear rundown and shared tools, they are able to plan segments, write scripts, coordinate packages, and communicate updates without constant guidance.

According to Dr. Marsh,

“It’s made my students be able to put their show together without me. They know how to coordinate the show, put all the packages together, write their scripts, and send them out to everybody who needs to know.”

Live shows at Miami Arts Studio often follow a familiar format, but unexpected changes are common. Guests arrive late, segments change, or last-minute announcements need to be added. With Cuez, students can quickly adjust the rundown during the live show without disrupting the overall flow.

This flexibility has helped productions feel more controlled and more professional, even when things change at the last moment.

Preparing Students for Real-World Production

Students describe the platform as clear, organized, and easy to use. Anchors, directors, and control room teams all work from the same structure, which makes live shows smoother and easier to manage.

Today, Miami Arts Studio uses Cuez not only for live broadcasts, but also for planning and coordinating other productions. For Dr. Marsh and his students, it has become an essential tool for learning how real-world broadcast workflows operate and for preparing students to work with the same tools used in professional environments.
