News Production: BX1

Regional News Automated with Cuez

BX1 is the regional television and radio channel for Brussels, producing news for TV, radio, and the web. As part of the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles' network, BX1 has been broadcasting on TV since 2015 and on the radio since 2019.

When the time came to modernize their studio in the brand new building in Brussels, the team realized that most of their studio workflows were still done manually. Automation existed in isolation, but there was no unified way to script a show and connect the editorial to the technical. That's when they came across Cuez.

Translating Editorial Needs into Technical Actions

The feature that changed everything for BX1 was Cuez's conditions engine. Rather than hardcoding studio setups for every possible show scenario, the editorial team can now fill in simple fields, like a dropdown, a selection, or a number, and the system takes care of the rest.

Previously challenging scenarios — with many studio or remote guests and external feeds — are now prepared in advance in a simple manner.  What made it difficult previously is translating these editorial variables into technical actions — microphones, camera angles, graphics, and tracking.  Now with Cuez, they are all triggered automatically. The result is a show that feels dynamic and alive.

90% of Equipment, Now Cuez-Controlled

BX1 integrated a wide range of studio equipment into Cuez, and today, roughly 90% is operated or operable through the platform: Panasonic cameras, graphics systems, audio, and more all fall under one unified control layer.

The integrations setup was straightforward, and BX1 managed to optimize their operational gains and deliver on a key business objective: reducing both production costs and the overheads tied to technical subscriptions and support.

"With a single click, you can configure a whole set of equipment and tell it to open these microphones, position the cameras, activate tracking, and display the right lower-third graphic for each speaker."

Scripting the Show: The Real Challenge

The biggest challenge wasn't the technology per se; it was translating editorial into the technical.

"In technical terms, we needed precision. Cuez allowed us to build the right conditions and variables to translate editorial needs into technical actions," says Rafaël, Technical Coordinator, BX1

This is a significant win for BX1 because it finally bridged the gap between the editorial and technical teams — something they struggled with for a long time.

Once BX1 did that work, the possibilities became, in Rafaël's words, "almost infinite."

A Solution for Any Production

For BX1, their experience with Cuez clearly pointed to three reasons why the switch was essential: they automated complex production workflows, reduced costs, and integrated with the broadcast equipment already in use.

Rafaël stresses: whether you're running a TV channel, a radio station, or a web-first operation, Cuez is a great platform that gives your team the tools to turn editorial intent into broadcast-ready action without unnecessary technicalities.
