From Chaos to Control: Producing a Sports Podcast with Cuez

What do you do when your production workflow is so chaotic, it’s holding you back? For the team behind The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz, one of the most popular sports podcasts on the planet, that question became impossible to ignore. Their answer? Cuez.
In our interview with Jenny Rutherford, Executive Director of Content Operations, and Luis Montejo, Video Producer at Meadowlark Media, we discussed how their team went from disorganized production to a smart, connected workflow with Cuez.

Google Docs and Freezing Controllers

Before Cuez, Meadowlark’s podcast production process was chaotic and disorganized.

“There really wasn’t anything before. It was just a Google sheet. The process before we had Cuez was… There was no process,” Jenny admits.

The Meadowlark team needed something that could handle a fast-paced, remote-friendly podcast show without taking away the autonomy of the creative team.

The workflow, as it was, could not handle files quickly into the control room to play out. The teal struggled with the controllers blowing up and freezing at the most inconvenient moments. And it simply was not working.

They wanted structure, but not rigidity. Improved workflow, but not complexity.

"We were a very chaotic show that became a very controlled chaos. And I give a lot of that credit to Cuez.”

Shifting to Cuez: Rundown and Playback

Once Cuez stepped in, things clicked fast.
“We use this primarily as our show rundown, our show script, and our show log, and our video playback, graphics playback, via the Automator,” says Luis.

Cuez was able to offer a complete setup for Meadowlark, including the rundown and a playback solution. The team replaced their patchwork of docs, drives, and slow playouts with one central platform. That meant everything, from scripting to video triggers; could now be done in one place.

“It helps us stay organized, and the fact that those two things are married, rundown and video playback, it makes it easier to build out a playlist beforehand without having to do too much switching,” Luis explains.

Why Cuez Just Makes Sense

Cuez didn’t just fix their tools. It adapted to the existing setup at Meadowlark.

“It’s how adaptable and flexible Cuez has been for my workflow. We’ve been able to adapt, and it’s nailed it. I haven’t found anything I need another program for,” Luis says.

It’s not just about smoother workflows either, it’s about saving real time (and money) in a high-output environment.

“The process made sense. It was very intuitive to what a producer does,” said Jenni.

What Cuez was able to provide was essential for Meadowlark and their desire to keep the process flexible. The cloud-based setup and real-time flexibility allowed different teams the freedom to stay connected across their new studios in Miami and New York with no more freezing controllers or slow file transfers.

“Cost saving, time saving, but also just value for multitasking. Cuez really forms the top three of our tools.”

“If You Don’t Know Where to Start — Start with Cuez”

Cuez didn’t just improve Meadowlark’s workflow. It became part of their language. And if you’re in a similar situation—producing live shows, handling media assets, and trying to bring order to chaos, Luis has one clear piece of advice:

“If you don’t know where to start, start with Cuez.”
