Cuez for a 48-Hour Live Broadcast: Roparun Radio

Every year during Pentecost, thousands of people run and cycle from France and the Netherlands to Rotterdam’s Coolsingel for the Roparun, a non-stop relay to raise funds for people with cancer. Last year alone, the event raised over €4.4M.

“We operate our own radio station within the organization. It’s called Roparun Radio, and more than 150,000 people listen to it each year,” says Jim Friederich, Program Director of Roparun Radio.

The challenge? Running 48 hours of live content across multiple platforms, teams, and locations — all while coordinating reporters, programming, and updates.

From Paper to Cloud with Cuez

Like many live productions, Roparun Radio originally managed its rundown manually, using scattered printouts and handwritten updates.

“Previously, we were always working with printed pages, and there were printouts all over the editorial office, in the studio… I would walk around with a pen to all those places, scribbling and making manual updates.”

But that changed when Jim and his team discovered Cuez.

“At some point, we thought — this has to change, it can be smarter, more convenient. And that’s how we actually came across Cuez.”

As a non-profit initiative, Roparun approached Cuez with a simple question:

“Would you like to contribute to this great project for charity? The response from Cuez was immediately enthusiastic. They wanted to participate.”

Real-Time Collaboration Across Teams and Even Countries

Once implemented, Cuez changed content creation and communication in a big way.

“It really changed the entire handling of all content in a very positive way. It’s faster, it’s more efficient, and it’s much easier for us.”

Even the reporters on location experienced the benefits firsthand, as well as the editorial and production teams, who had full oversight.

“They can easily change or adjust things, and what’s also really great is that they can structure things nicely from different perspectives… The director knows, based on the rundown, what they have to do. The presenter knows, the editorial team knows — everyone does. And that works really well.”

A Future-Proof Solution

Beyond the immediate production improvements, Jim sees potential for long-term impact:

“I think Cuez can really contribute to the future of working in news production, in live productions or recordings, and that Cuez is very responsive to developments in that area. New tools and features are constantly being added.”

From accessibility and support to flexibility and future-readiness, Roparun Radio’s experience with Cuez captures exactly what our mission is about: empowering teams to focus less on logistics and more on the moments that matter.

“Even the reporters in France can now simply follow the rundown directly from their smartphones, including any changes made in the program, so that they also know what to expect.”
