Sports Production: Proximus Media House

How Cuez transformed live production at Proximus Media House

Proximus Media House (PMH) is a content creation and distribution house focused on audio-visual content for Proximus’s platform and channels, including live sports and on-demand content. In terms of sports, one of the major broadcasts is the Champions League. Managing such large-scale productions comes with its fair share of challenges, especially because the production takes place in Belgium, both in Dutch and in French. Coordinating multiple teams, languages, keeping rundowns updated, and ensuring smooth execution has always been a challenge for PMH. Until Cuez stepped in.

Moving from paper to a digital production

What did the production process look like for PMH before switching to Cuez? Live production at PMH involved stacks of printed rundowns, the constant need for re-printing the latest rundown version, and difficulty keeping everyone in the loop. This process was not only time-consuming but also prone to errors.

“We had a lot of pieces of paper for any live production, and for any modification, it was super complicated because we had to reprint everything and make sure everyone had the latest version,” says Clément, Product Manager at PMH.

By switching to Cuez, PMH significantly reduced the need for paper, with real-time updates ensuring that everyone was always working with the most current version.

“Now we use Cuez, we limited the number of reprints, and we can make live modifications instantly,” Clément adds. The goal? A fully paperless workflow in the future.

Making Champions League with Cuez

Broadcasting the Champions League is no small feat. PMH produces highlight programs in both French and Dutch, which requires two dedicated teams and two identical studios. For that setup to work, PMH had to hire multiple vision mixers to get content onto their 270-degree LED walls.

“That for us was a big challenge—to find two additional mixers for every Champions League night. With Cuez, we optimized that process and made it easier to use. Automator allowed us to do more with fewer resources and in a much simpler way,” says Kenneth, Live Operations Manager at PMH.

"Cuez Automator allowed us to do more with less, and, really, in a more simple way."

Faster Graphics and Playout Control

One of the biggest advantages of Cuez for PMH is its automation capabilities. On practical example where the workflow has improved is the statistics display during the game. Before, PMH had a long workaround of getting live Opta statistics onto their LED screens. That process took up to 10 minutes, which, in the reality of live broadcasting, is a significant delay in live production.

“Now, with Automator, that process has been reduced to merely seconds. Whenever an editor uploads the graphics, they become available almost instantly for on-air use,” Kenneth explains.

This kind of automation doesn’t just speed things up; it also reduces the need for additional operators.

"We had specific operators just for the LED screens. Now, thanks to Cuez Automator, a single operator can handle multiple tasks."

With PMH’s productions spanning multiple languages and teams, keeping everyone on the same page used to be a challenge.

“We needed a way to synchronize our teams without passing Word documents around,” says Kenneth. “Cuez really solved that issue—it allows us to work together in a way that no other platform does.”

The impact of Cuez on PMH has been clear: less manual work, fewer mistakes, and a faster, more efficient production process.

“I would probably NOT recommend Cuez for any of our competitors because it’s potentially an unfair advantage we have!”, as Clément jokingly puts it.
